Château Patache d'Aux, Médoc Cru Bourgeois 2017

  • About

Château Patache d’Aux in the northern Médoc has a history dating back to the 18th century, with the first harvest recorded in 1720. Situated just 10 kilometres from the Gironde estuary, the name ‘Patache’ has a dual meaning, referring to the maritime customs vessels that patrolled the estuary and the stagecoaches, depicted on the label, used to transport noblemen.

In 2016, the estate was purchased by Antoine Moueix Propriétés, a négociant with over a century of experience working in Bordeaux’s Right Bank. They invested heavily in the property, transitioning to sustainable viticulture, constructing a new cellar in 2017, and implementing a new winemaking team supported by famed consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt. The shift to sustainable viticulture practices, such as planting inter-row cover crops and ploughing the vineyards, has resulted in a healthier soil structure and the development of deeper roots. This ensures the vines are better protected against extreme weather, and the team believes it has helped improve the complexity of the wine.

This wine is deep purple in colour. The nose is bright, with blackberries aromas underlined with hints of liquorice. The palate is structured and supported by smooth tannins. The finish is fresh and long-lasting.
